The Rakaia Medical Centre is situated just off State Highway 1 on Elizabeth Ave in Rakaia, - 28ks from Ashburton and 53ks from Christchurch. Turn left at the Mobil Garage and head towards the mountains. If you go through 2 roundabouts you will find us on
the left hand side of the road right next to the Fire Station.
This building was purpose built by the Ashburton District Council and opened in June 2000.
In March 2004 the Rakaia Medical Centre Community Trust was formed.
In November 2008 Dr Jean-Marc de Maroussem along with Dr Samanthi Rambadagalla both started practising here. Samanthi left at the end of 2011 but Jean-Marc is still here working 5 days a week including Tues evenings till 7pm.
We extended our building at the beginning of 2009, finishing in March and have added another Trauma Room, a Therapy room (for our visiting Professionals), an office and a staff room which makes the Medical Centre twice the size it
was. The building is very modern, light and airy. Our 2 Trauma Rooms are up to date with the latest equipment and our doctors and nurses are fully trained to deal with emergencies and minor surgery.
We welcome our regular patients as well as visitors.
In June 2010 we had been open here at 30 Elizabeth Ave, 10 years so we celebrated with past employees, Trust members and members of the community. The cutting of the cake was undertaken by Sylvia Mellish (The Trust Chairperson) and Fiona Martin (our longest serving employee and
Head Nurse).
